Bathroom Vanities - Double Sink - Bathroom Vanity size 70 - 79 IN - Birch Wood

The 70 to 79 inch double sink vanity is the default size for a shared bathroom, and 72 inches is the width the whole category is designed around. It is wide enough that two basins each get their own drawer bank and elbow room, and narrow enough to fit the walls most homes actually have. These 55 vanities are built from birch, never MDF or particleboard, with soft-close storage and a natural stone top.

Why 72 inches became the standard double

There is a reason 72 inch vanities outnumber every other double width. Below 70 inches, two sinks start borrowing space from each other and the center counter shrinks to a strip. Above 80 inches, you need a long uninterrupted wall that many bathrooms simply do not have. The 70–79 inch band sits exactly in between: two real basins, usable counter between and beside them, and a footprint that fits a typical primary bathroom after a remodel.

It is also the easiest size to plumb. Most existing double rough-ins in this range line up with standard basin spacing, which usually means less work than moving drain lines for a wider cabinet.

Getting the fit right

Measure the wall opening first and subtract clearance at each end for trim, baseboard or a side wall. Check the bathroom door swing and any shower door that opens toward the vanity. Confirm your existing plumbing rough-in positions against the basin layout of the design you want. Standard depth is 22 inches. These cabinets ship fully assembled rather than flat-packed, so also check that hallways, turns and door frames can take a piece this wide.

Birch construction — why the material decides the lifespan

A double vanity carries a long, heavy stone top across its full span, and that load is what separates real wood from pressed board. Willow builds these cabinets from birch, a dense, tight-grained hardwood, with solid birch frames and doors and FSC-certified sourcing — never MDF or particleboard — finished with a durable low-VOC sealer.

Most mass-market double vanities use MDF or particleboard beneath the finish. In a shared bathroom running two sinks and a shower every day, that core swells at the toe kick, softens around the plumbing cutouts and eventually sags in the middle of the span. Birch holds its line under stone, grips hardware across a long run of drawers and hinges, and can be sanded and refinished years later rather than replaced.

Countertops, storage and finish

Quartz and natural Carrara marble are the widely available tops across this collection, and select designs also offer quartzite or terrazzo — depending on the design, so check the individual product page. Every top includes a matching backsplash and your choice of a Mitered or Cove edge. The stone ships in its own protective box and both undermount basins are set during installation. Drawers are soft-close and hinges are concealed and adjustable.

Painted birch gives this size range its range of looks: a soft white or warm greige keeps a large vanity from dominating the room, while navy, deep green or black turns the same footprint into the anchor piece of the bathroom.

Frequently asked questions

Is a 72 inch vanity big enough for two sinks?

Yes — 72 inches is the standard double sink width for a reason. It gives each basin its own drawer bank and enough counter between and beside the sinks for two people to use it at once, while still fitting the wall length most primary bathrooms have.

What is the difference between a 72 inch and an 84 inch double vanity?

Both hold two basins comfortably; the extra width buys you a larger landing zone in the center and more storage per person. Choose 72 inches when your wall is a typical length or your plumbing is already roughed in for it, and 84 inches when you have a long uninterrupted wall and want the vanity to read as a furniture piece.

What are these double vanities made of?

They are built from birch — solid birch frames and doors with natural veneer over marine-grade plywood on the larger panels, FSC-certified and never MDF or particleboard. That matters on a double, because the cabinet carries a long, heavy stone top and pressed board sags under that load and swells wherever moisture reaches a cut edge.

What should I measure before ordering?

Measure the wall opening and allow clearance at both ends for trim or a side wall, check the bathroom and shower door swings, and confirm your plumbing rough-in positions against the basin layout. Standard depth is 22 inches. Because cabinets ship fully assembled, also check hallways and door frames along the delivery path.

What countertops can I choose?

Quartz and natural Carrara marble are the widely available options, and select designs also offer quartzite or terrazzo depending on the design. Each top includes a matching backsplash and your choice of a Mitered or Cove edge. Check the individual product page for that vanity's options.
